to celebrate the opening of our exhibitions SCC regularly
hosts lectures by upcoming artists. All exhibition events are free
and open to the public.

Rae Gold Fashion Show
Just in time for the fall season, SCC will be hosting a fashion show displaying new works by nationally known fiber artist Rae Gold from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008. This exclusive event will be the first time in two years Gold has displayed her work in her home town of Pittsburgh. Using machine knitted fibers, handmade felt, wool crape, and beautifully painted abstract designs, Gold creates comfortable, versatile, one-of-a-kind wearables. Board members and friends of SCC will be strutting their way down the catwalk in these fablous garments to a live DJ.

Martini Madness
This is the year to round out those martini glass collections! SCC will be hosting our 4th annual “Martini Madness” on Thursday, September 11th. We will be featuring a variety of artists, including George Ponzini, ceramicist Chris Longwell, Smyer’s Glass Studio out of California, and several of our own local artists from the Pittsburgh Glass Center, including Jessica Rutherford, who will be doing a live demonstration. The best bartenders in the city will be serving up specialty martinis along with delicious hors d’oeuvres and entertainment, all free with the purchase of a glass. Glass prices range from $30 to $200. Members will have the first pick of glasses and a meet and greet with the artists at 5:30 pm, half an hour prior to the official opening. There is a $20 registration fee that will be applied toward the purchase of a glass. Must be over 21 years of age to attend this event. Purchase Now.

Saturday Artist Demos in the Gallery
Free and open to all ages, 11-3 p.m. unless otherwise stated.
September 13th: Sun Young Kang will show visitors how she creates books with sewn bindings.
November 1st: Craig Smith of Turners Anonymous will demonstrate his woodturning skills on a lathe.
November 22nd: Polymer clay artist Laura Tabakman will include visitors in this participatory demonstration.
