Associated Artists of Pittsburgh 101st Annual Exhibition
(November 11 - January 14, 2012)
Opening reception Friday, November 11, 2012, 7-9 pm
The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP) is celebrating 101 years as a driving force in Pittsburgh’s dynamic cultural life with the presentation of its 101st Annual Exhibition, showcasing the work of Pittsburgh regional artists.
With a focus on works created within the intersection of contemporary art, craft and design, this year’s exhibition has being juried by Fo Wilson, a maker, educator, independent curator and writer from Chicago, Illinois. Wilson’s work uses the language of furniture and domestic objects to investigate ideas around identity and culture in a way that often crosses boundaries.

Ann Coddington Rast: Woven Sculptures
(December 18 - February 12, 2012)
Ann Coddington Rast: Woven Sculptures presents 13 installations that embody personal metaphors that may be hard to unravel, but which provide the viewer with layers of meaning. Made with 20,000-year-old basketry techniques, her contemporary sculptures have an almost timeless feel that enhances their delicate shapes. Working with techniques of twining—using a strong thread, string, or cord of two or more strands twisted together—as well basketry and weaving practices, Rast creates gestural sculptures that echo the familiar. Intentionally grouping various pieces together, Rast constructs subtle wall installations that evoke a narrative that is felt and experienced more than it is understood. In her installation, Mother Group, individual pieces reminiscent of lovingly-knit mittens, gathered sustenance and shelter come together to induce a visceral reaction - a remembrance of childhood.
