2010 Summer Weeklong Preview!


Book and Paper Frenzy

dates & times: Monday - Friday

June 14—18

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.


instructor: Pam Sussman


Feed your passion for all things book and paper with this weeklong, intensive workshop featuring more than a dozen projects. Hard and soft cover books, boxes, and decorative papers are explored during the course of the week, with special emphasis on improving book making skills at all levels of experience. Students are also exposed to a wide variety of the latest book making resources: instructional publications, periodicals and journals, online sites, tools and materials.


Tuition: $375

Materials Fee: $65


Making a Fan-Back Side Chair

dates & times: Monday - Saturday

July 12 —17

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (one-hour lunch break)


instructor: Craig Smith


The fan-back chair is an elegant and refined Windsor featuring a carved and bent crest that is supported by two turned stiles. Students build woodworking skills as they complete a chair using a combination of traditional and modern tools. The class is limited to seven participants.


Tuition: $525

Materials Fee: $125 (non-refundable after June 12)


Felted: A Study in the Elements of Art & Principles of Design

dates & times: Monday - Friday

June 21—25

9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (one-hour lunch break)


instructor: Lisa Klalulak


Whether you are a novice or seasoned felter, this class presents the fundamentals of felting while focusing specifically on design. Sample studies of the Elements of Art (Color Theory, Line, Partial Felt Shape, texture, Form) offer a plethora of techniques for masterful handling of fleece to create well-crafted felt. Felting small-scale compositions will follow, offering insights into using the Principles of Design (Balance, Emphasis, Variety, Gradation, Movement, Proportion) to manipulate the Elements of Art to enhance the visual communication of your work.

Mix It Up: PMC and Mixed Metals

dates & time: Monday - Friday

August 9—13

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (one-hour lunch break)


instructor: Donna Penoyer


In this exploratory workshop, students will be exposed to a variety of ways that fine silver PMC can be joined with other metals in order to make interesting jewelry. Emphasis will be placed on materials to be fired in place. Projects may include adding PMC surface decoration to a sterling silver cuff bracelet or ring, embedding wire, nuts, and bolts for imaginative connections; inlaying brass wire as a design element; incorporating wire mesh and other exciting possibilities. Beginning students welcome!


Tuition: $375
Materials Fee: Starts at $150 and will vary according to number of projects completed.
