Quilt Cupboard, 2005

Using salvaged steel and finishing his furniture with only a wax paste to preserve their natural patinas, Jim Rose’s fabrications celebrate Shaker design. A master of the Shaker technique, by all standards, Rose forms updated versions of classic wooden furniture through metal fabrication by hand. Using found colored bits of metal to accent doors and cabinet fronts the illusion of a quit is made. Born in Indiana, Rose lived in Europe for a number of years before returning to the States to earn his B.F.A. degree at the Art Institute of Chicago. He now lives and works in Wisconsin creating finely crafted furniture that expresses his love and appreciation of Shaker design and philosophy.
