Our skin is our largest organ. It stretches to contain what lies beneath. We are walking ecosystems through which cells and micro organisms thrive and flow. I am fascinated with the operation of our bodies and their capacity to transfer diseases from human to human.
Our bodies act as a membrane through which pathogens travel--distorting, damaging, and attacking cells. My work offers a unique way to interact with the structures of the body and its mutations, by viewing them on a macro scale and engage in a tactile relationship with each object. These pathogens have the ability to make us sick or cause death. I use vibrant colors and soft materials to create cartoon-like forms, presenting an approachable and humorous side to these serious topics. I interpret these forms to represent their unique and natural beauty. The viewer is encouraged to appreciate and understand that unrecognized organisms live on us, within us and interact with us in a dynamic way.
