Featured Store Artist: Marlene True

Public Opening Thursday, November 19, 6:00—8 pm

Recycled tin is central to the jewelry of Marlene True. Color, rust, and fading paint together with floral and cross motifs are used as an expression of the ephemeral.

Marlene True is a full-time studio artist and current Artist-in-Residence at Pocosin Arts in Columbia, North Carolina. She was recently honored having her work chosen to become a part of the permanent collection of the Enamel Arts Foundation in Los Angeles, CA. Forthcoming, her work and writings will be featured in Lark Book’s Jewelry Design Challenge. When not in her studio, Marlene is busy teaching students to make jewelry with recycled tin and other alternative materials and is scheduled at both Penland School of Crafts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts for summer of 2010.

  Education

The days grow shorter and the first frost arrives. If you are dreading the arrival of winter, discover what a rich season it can be for renewal and personal growth. The cold temperatures and long dark nights that keep us inside are perfect for creative activities–learning a new skill or strengthening and existing talent. If you struggle with the long winter months, as I used to, a Studio class might just provide the antidote for your winter doldrums.

This season we are offering Try It classes to give you a chance to experience five different mediums to see which one you like best. The three-hour classes are very affordable, from $20-$40, and taught by some of our most requested instructors. So, why not try it? I guarantee you’ll experience winter in a new creative light!
