This topographical image represents America as a unified land, omitting state boundaries but focusing on cities, monuments, and general regional characteristics. The work reads as a narrative, and tucked into the complex patterning of the landscape are subtle references to our history and growth as an adaptable, pioneering country. The image was made from the layered printing of five individually hand-drawn and carved woodblocks, and was conceived after an invitation to participate in Manifest Hope, an art exhibition celebrating the inauguration of our 44th President.
